Place chick peas and 6 cups of water into a saucepan and bring to the boil. Simmer for approximately 45 minutes until tender (Soak overnight to reduce this cooking time).
Puree chick peas in a blender or food processor. Add remaining ingredients and blend together. Slowly add 3/4 - 1 cup water until a smooth creamy consistency is reached to your liking.
Season with salt & pepper to taste.
