Home-Baked Beans

Step 1

Prepare and cook McKenzie’s White Beans as directed on pack. Drain and set aside. Preheat oven to 180ºC.

Step 2

Mix together treacle/molasses, mustard, sugar and stock powder with a small quantity of tomato puree. Add remaining puree, onion (if using) and beans, stirring together well. Season to taste.

Step 3

Place in oven proof dish, cover and cook for 30 minutes or until heated through. If sauce reduces too much during cooking, add a small amount of water. Serve.

For a nutritious breakfast, serve baked beans on toasted wholewheat or rye bread, sauteed spinach leaves and poached eggs.  This recipe can also be used to stuff baked potatoes for a tasty and nutritious light meal.
