Bi-Carb Soda

For your Home

Clean Bin
Keep your rubbish bin smelling fresh - periodically sprinkle McKenzie's Bi-carb Soda on the waste. On rubbish collection day, wash and deodorise the bin in a solution of McKenzie's Bi-carb Soda.

Clean Dishwasher
Throw a handful of McKenzie's Bi-carb Soda into the bottom of the dishwasher mid-way between loads - this will eliminate odours and work double-duty as a gentle cleanser in the next wash cycle.

Clean Kitchen and bathroom surfaces
Clean chopping boards, stainless steel sinks, ovens and rangehoods with food safe McKenzie's Bi-carb Soda sprinkled on a damp cloth. Rinse well and your whole kitchen will sparkle. But don't neglect the bathroom: McKenzie's Bi-carb Soda will work a treat on bathroom surfaces too - bathtubs, tiles, floors, mirrors, screens and sinks.

Deodorise your house
Deodorise the whole house! Sprinkle carpets with McKenzie's Bi-carb Soda, leave a few minutes and then vacuum.

Dirty Saucepans
For dirty saucepans that don't respond to steel scourers, add cold water and one to two tablespoons of McKenzie's Bi-carb Soda and bring to the boil. When cool, finish off with steel wool.

Fabric Softener
Harper's Powdered Borax can be used as a fabric softener in the following way:
1 tablespoon to 5 litres of water and proceed with your normal wash cycle.

Fresh sink
Freshen sinks by slowly pouring half a cup McKenzie's Bi-carb soda down the drain together with warm tap water.

Making Self Raising Flour
To make 1 cup self-raising flour, you will need 1 cup plain flour and two teaspoons Ward's Baking Powder. Or, use 1 teaspoon McKenzie's Cream of Tartar and half a teaspoon McKenzie's Bi-carb Soda.

Oven grime
For stubborn oven grime, apply a paste of McKenzie's Bi-carb Soda and water to a warm oven, leave overnight and wipe off. For regular cleaning, apply paste to a cold oven, warm for 30 minutes and then rinse off.

Polish Silverware
Polish up the family silverware with a paste made from McKenzie's Bi-carb Soda and water. Rinse and dry well.

Sparkling microwave
For a sparkling microwave, wipe over (inside and out) with a damp sponge sprinkled with McKenzie's Bi-carb Soda. Rinse well with water.

Stained Cups
Restore life to stained tea/coffee cups - apply to a damp cloth and rub away.
